TRUE STORY TUESDAY! Mike and Trish Yee (the couple on the right in the photo below, standing next to Dave and Laura Sliman) are California franchise owners of the inside coup®, a stunning magazine and company that delivers great deals and coupons to their community, plus it generates foot traffic into the local and national businesses who advertise within it... but Mike and Trish's entrepreneurial journey started long before they opened their franchise.
When Mike was in 3rd grade his dad owned a pharmacy. Mike ordered candy, along side his dad, and resold the candy to his schoolmates at a 2 time markup. The school principal ended Mike's resale business, yet that didn't stop Mike. He decided to make his own candy; gummy candy covered in nuts and placed on a stick! The school principal loved it; he admired Mike's drive, vision and that he personally created the candy versus reselling other brands.
Mike's wife, Trish, embraced entrepreneurship early in her life too, as a successful babysitter.
Later in life Mike and Trish met and soon a baby Micah, their son, was born. During Micah's first five years Trish did not work, yet when Micah began kindergarten she was ready for a fresh career. She became a fitness and supplements coach and later joined the Chick-fil-A team as a Director of Marketing.
Mike's adult career path was busy. He spent 25 years distributing financial products. He ran call center teams and helped Fortune 500 companies with their life insurance products. Mike sold real estate to brokers and then joined corporate America, yet the corporation he worked for went out of business.
That stressful career loss helped Mike realize his desire to be self employed. He was ready to control his own destiny and "not be paid peanuts" so Mike started looking.
Trish's Chick-fil-A boss belonged to a local country club and was friendly with a franchise broker he payed with there. After learning about Mike and Trish, the broker met and interviewed them. Based on that interview he found 4 franchises he felt would be a good fit for them:
1. Acaí Bowl
2. Teriyaki Madness
3. Poke Bowl
4. The inside coup
They both felt there was market saturation with the first three options. Then they met the inside coup® team by way of a phone call with Dave and Teri. It was exciting! They loved the energy and how they wholeheartedly believed in the inside coup®. After two weeks of calls, where they discovered the franchise model, they felt they found their home.
Mike and Trish came to Scottsdale, Arizona and personally met with the coup team. They felt as though they had known everyone at the inside coup® all their lives.
In the beginning, Mike and Tricia were unsure how to start their magazine business because they had never owned a franchise, yet they found the inside coup® training was amazing. They discovered the coup team was there for them during their training at HQ and during corporate visits to their Orange County, CA territory. They felt helped and coached every step of the way. After their initial 2 week training Tricia jumped in with both feet, while Mike was still working F/T elsewhere. She built their first two 20-page magazines in a record 10 weeks all on her own. She followed that success by building their third 20-page magazine in 10 weeks, again all on her own. Today they work together and Mike and Tricia's magazines are filled with happy advertisers whom enjoy monthly visits from the dedicated Yee team. Trish has now offered to help coach new franchise owners.
Their story to find business happiness is wonderful and the best part is they get to make a difference in other people's lives, small business owners just like them. They get to help drive more customers through their doors and improve their business lives, just like the inside coup® improved theirs. ... See MoreSee Less
